A lot of people recognize Chelsea for her unique red hair, but she is also known for her dedication to her clients and the legal profession. Chelsea joined Douglass & Runger in March 2020, and her practice focuses mainly on divorce law and adoptions, but she also tackles other civil litigation matters involving business disputes, real estate litigation, and trust litigation.
Growing up, Chelsea always knew she wanted to be an attorney and advocate for individuals during some of their best and worst times. She attributes her accomplishment of realizing her childhood dream of becoming a lawyer to her education. Chelsea graduated from Mississippi State University, summa cum laude, in 2014, earning a Bachelor of Accountancy. She then went on to earn her Juris Doctorate from Mississippi College School of Law, graduating in 2017, magna cum laude. While in law school, Chelsea was a Dean’s Ambassador and served as a member (2015-2016) and Executive Editor (2016-2017) of MC Law’s Law Review.
Chelsea began her legal career serving as a Law Fellow for the Office of Legal Counsel at the University of Memphis. Through her experience and working on different projects and assignments at the University, Chelsea learned how to balance a variety of individuals who all offered different perspectives and personalities, which translates directly into her practice.
Prior to joining Douglass & Runger, Chelsea clerked for the Honorable Chancellor Jim Kyle of the Shelby County Chancery Court. Her clerkship exposed her to a variety of cases and issues in the civil law sector, including divorces, adoptions, family disputes, and business disputes. Because of her clerkship experience, Chelsea brings a unique perspective to Douglass & Runger, having dealt with a Judge on a daily basis and seeing the workings of the court system from the other side of the bar. The insight Chelsea gained from her judicial clerkship serves as an invaluable resource for all of Chelsea’s clients because she understands the intricate mechanics of how courtroom litigation works, how Judges evaluate cases, and how to most effectively present cases to the Court.
Chelsea’s impressive legal pedigree, tireless work ethic, and desire for serving people separates her from other attorneys in the Memphis community. Not only is Chelsea skilled at navigating her family law clients through their legal situations, but her background in accounting provides a skillset that most attorneys lack and enables her to provide zealous representation to her business clients as well. Despite her seemingly calm, even-tempered demeanor, she possesses a competitive drive, which she cultivated after years of playing sports, that assists her in passionately advocating for all of her clients.
As a native Memphian, Chelsea enjoys going out and seeing what this great city as to offer, from shows and music to food. She is a big sports fan and loves cheering on her beloved Mississippi State Dawgs and hometown Tigers, Grizzlies, and Redbirds. In her spare time, Chelsea also enjoys reading (for fun!), going to the gym, hanging out with friends, spending time with family, playing and walking with her golden retriever, River, and being out on the boat and water at Horseshoe Lake, AR.
