Joy A. Robertson is a native Memphian who offers her clients a wide variety of legal experience handling civil litigation matters involving personal injury cases, complex business disputes and real estate litigation. Joy also routinely represents people in the areas of divorce, child custody, family law, juvenile delinquency and probate matters.
Joy began her legal career working as a lobbyist in the Tennessee General Assembly, representing the interests of individuals and small business owners. Her experience as a lobbyist afforded her the opportunity to work closely with individuals and small businesses and advocate for their interests. While she enjoyed her time as a lobbyist, Joy realized her true passion was litigating in the courtroom where she could make more of a direct impact for individuals and businesses in helping them achieve their desired results.
Upon leaving the Tennessee General Assembly, Joy started her legal career focusing primarily on creditors rights and collection matters working at a small Memphis law firm and trying hundreds of cases all throughout the state of Tennessee. While she enjoyed representing businesses and creditors on collection matters, Joy’s strong desire to broaden her legal skillset and her passion for working more closely with individuals and small businesses on more personal matters led her to Douglass & Runger, PLLC in May 2019.
Joy works tirelessly and is a fierce advocate for her clients both inside and outside of the courtroom, but perhaps her greatest attribute is that she approaches her clients’ cases with compassion. Joy listens to her clients, determines their goals, walks them through the legal process necessary to accomplish her clients’ goals and works towards resolutions to achieve her clients’ objectives. Although she is a skilled and tenacious litigator, Joy views her responsibility to her clients as encompassing more than just her ethical and advocacy duties, and she makes a sincere effort to provide her clients with empathetic, non-judgmental support in order to lessen the stress and difficulties that they are currently facing.
This compassion, coupled with her extensive litigation experience and zealous advocacy, is the reason why Joy is able to effectively represent individuals who are dealing with the emotional distress of divorce or the loss of a loved one in a probate matter, but also fiercely advocate for individuals who are injured due to the negligence of a third party or fight for small business owners who are wronged when business transactions go south. A skilled and persuasive negotiator, Joy routinely obtains favorable results for her clients outside of the courtroom; however, when a favorable outcome can not be reached outside of Court, Joy relishes the opportunity to take matters to trial where she thrives inside the courtroom.
In her free time, Joy enjoys spending time with her close group of long-time friends and deepening her appreciation of Memphis culture and food. She is an animal lover and mother to her dog, Rosie, and two cats, Harpo and Jasper. Joy is passionate about quality food and fitness, and she uses both to ensure that she is clear headed and ready to represent her clients with balanced energy and enthusiasm.

Recently, I had the privilege of consulting with attorneys, Joy Robertson and Curtis A. Runger. Both were extremely knowledgeable, solicitous, and conscientious. They seemed to have all the time in the world to examine my affairs and to answer all of my questions. I was particularly impressed with Ms. Robertson for her kind and well-informed attention in addressing my questions. I know that their fees are very reasonable, also. I highly recommend both for their legal knowledge, competence, and integrity. If the need arises, I will certainly seek their counsel in the future.
I recently was in need of a lawyer for some probate issues with a deceased relative. I was must certainly not looking forward to dealing with all of this and expected it to be a nightmare. Luckily I end up dealing with Ms. Joy Robertson and could not have been happier with the level of service that we received. She made the process easy and as stress free as possible.
In October 2019 I had come to the decision that my marriage of 10 years would be ending in divorce. With no knowledge of how to start the process or who to seek counsel in, I drew my luck with an attorney search in Google. I came across several offices that offered services, but nothing stuck out. Finally I came across the Douglas and Runger Attorney Office and filled out a quick and easy consultation form on line. Within that same day I was contacted by a representative that took my information, explained each step of what I needed and I was able to schedule an appointment to see someone.
My first appointment was with Attorney Joy Robertson. From our first meeting I felt welcomed, comfortable and she was exceedingly knowledgeable on any questions that I had. She has actually worked on a few cases for me and I recommend her to anyone who needs a thorough and professional attorney to represent you or your family members. Joy is by the book and thinks strategically. Once again, very professional and completely unbiased with ethical and logical reasoning. Attention to detail is her forte.
Joy Robertson was AWESOME! Our initial visit was very professional and friendly. I really felt like Joy listened to everything we had to say and she put my mind at ease. She kept us up to date on the status of our case and ultimately got us our full settlement without having to go to court! I highly recommend Joy to anyone looking for an attorney!
